For laid back individuals, shabby-chic nightstands are perfect. The soft off-white color of this style can give your room a casual feel. Of course, you can expect this style to look old and outdated. Well, that is exactly what shabby chic is all about. You get a piece of furniture that has chips in the wood or different colors showing through the paint. Usually, this style is used with other pieces of furniture that have a cottage style. These furniture pieces still come with drawers and shelves for your odds and ends.
Bedroom nightstands double as great end tables in your living room or den. At just the right height to reach from the couch, nightstands disguise themselves perfectly as end tables. With drawers and small shelves, a nightstand offers more storage space than the average end table. Though in individual cases it depends on the style of nightstand and your decorating style, if you are relaxed about how you decorate, throwing in a random nightstand will fit in perfectly while giving you extra table space.
Whether 'tis nobler to have a nightstand or not, is actually a very personal subject. There are many people who dislike the look of nightstands and instead have opted for bookcases next to their beds that will hold all that a nightstand would, for instance.
Bedroom nightstands are small, and so they fit into the nursery or a small child's room effortlessly. Put the little board books on the shelves or the special treasures in the drawers. Children will have an easier time accessing a smaller piece of furniture, so a nightstand is ideal. Your child's imagination could even make it into a fire department or doll house during playtime.
There are still people however who wish to have matching nightstands for their bedroom with one on either side of the bed, as sentries to guard good sleep. An all-Edwardian bedroom set looks "right" with two bulky matching Edwardian nightstands. It was the fashion back then, and today is easily accepted if you like Edwardian furniture styles.
